Tree of Music

So this is my music tree. The pictures aren't too good and they don't really show off everything I've done, but yeah, here it is. Basically the whole concept was to create a tree of music that actually produce sound. So in each of the little flowers that you see are earbud headphones that are connected to portable radio players. So when you turn the radios on or hook the headphones up to an mp3 player the tree actually makes music (quietly however). For the instruments along the trunk and branches of the tree I picked an array of things ranging from classical, to more modern, and also some more foreign instruments. There is a classical bass, bass drum (with kick stand), guitar, piano, berimbau, citar, trombone, and saxophone.

My overall evaluation is pretty satisfied. If I were to do it again (and had a better budget) I would make the tree have more branches and instruments, giving it a "fuller" look because right now it is kind of flat. Also I would buy better radios and headphones that could play louder, or possibly even try small speakers hidden instead of on display. I really like the whole concept and idea and see myself reworking it a few times because I feel the concept has great potential.

Threadless Tshirt Design

So my I came up with a couple of designs for this project but a lot of them didn't turn out the way I wanted them to so I decided to run with my cookie idea. Coming up with the concept was really easy but I had lots of trouble when it came to putting it on the computer and tweaking it. I've never used photoshop so I didn't really have any clue as to how I could accomplish what I was trying to do. The finished result is pretty good but if I had to do this again I would have done it not on a Mac, or in Photoshop. I would use another program I'm more familiar with like paint or something simple and basic like that.

Time Lapse Animation

With this video I wanted to do a time lapse drawing that focused more on the picture than on the technique of the artist. Looking back on the project I wish I would have done a more complicated picture so that the film would be longer which would make it more enjoyable for the viewer. I'm still pretty satisfied about how it turned out though.

Animation concept and ideas

So my idea for my animation project is basically a time lapse video of a drawing or set of drawings worked on by me and two of my friends. We'll start by having one of us draw a picture, photographing the progress with a digital camera till we have one complete work then white out or erase all but one part of it and move on to the next artist and have them transform the picture into something new. I haven't decided on the subject matter yet because I want to discuss it with my friends to see what we can come up with. I'm pretty eager to see how this will turn out because it's something I've thought of doing for some time. I looked up a few works by an artist called Blublu (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uuGaqLT-gO4) and another named William Kentridge (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1sPLXMg1BQ). Seeing these videos really gave me some ideas toward the direction of where I want my project to go. I'm pretty excited about it, but a little worried about how long it will take. All these in depth projects are really cutting into my laying around time. :)

My finished video!

My overall concept was to make the video fun and crazy. Pretty happy with the way it turned out, there's only a few times the video doesn't sync well to the audio but I'm pretty satisfied with it.

Project 2 soundclip

My approach to the project was to first listen to the entire soundbite so I knew what I had to work with. I decided about a quarter into listening to it that I wanted to make a funny clip about sex and drugs since there was just a plethora of things that could easily be made to sound the wrong way. So humor was like my guiding light. What could I do to make the narrative funny. As I listened I took down notes of what I'd like to use, and how I could make them fit together. I don't think that my audio creates any specific emotion, other than humor. It's just suppose to make you laugh, maybe roll your eyes a little. The work was tedious but I did enjoy making the audio clip. I'm sure I looked a little crazy as I laughed out loud in my class room when I would hear something that would fit perfectly into my little perverted monologue. It was a little nerve racking to edit things just right and their were a few things that didn't turn out as seamless as I would have hoped but overall I liked the end product. Before I started on the humor theme I was thinking that this would be a great clip for like a zombie story or something like that, but I figured that matching that to a video would be too hard because it's so specific. Specific things would have to be shown or it wouldn't match up. I figured the video would be something from the 50's and so I was sure I'd find ample shots for what I need, since classy, old, white guys were all the rage in 50's movies and t.v. I was pretty confident that I could easily match up my dialogue with nearly any video provided. I think it's successful, or more on the way to being successful. It's kinda short, and I didn't really add an intro or an exit. It just kinda starts and then stops. But it works, I like it, and hopefully I didn't accidentally lose everything I worked on today. I bet I did, damn machines are out to get me, I know it!
